Monday - I'm a tourist again!

My goal for the day was to show Tamil as many of the sights he wanted to see before he had to head back to JFK to check in and such. Of course rather than deal with the pain of getting from James' place to the airport, we figured we'd take all his luggage into town and find somewhere to store it, then he could hop on the E and not worry about transferring until he got to Jamaica station. Yeah, we did a bunch of touristy stuff, but it didn't really occur to me to take pics... Oh well, maybe when Tamil gets back he'll upload them and I'll link over to them.

So we head into the city and get off at Herald Sq to visit our friendly neighborhood Macy's, which has a coat check that will check luggage for free "while you shop there." You have to use those keywords to get them to hold onto it for you. Unburdened by the luggage now, we head towards the Empire State Building after grabbing an authentic NY hot dog from a Sabrett's. He takes some pics of the Empire State Building and we head downtown to Battery Park City to ogle at Lady Liberty.

We then start heading northwards towards the Financial District. We check out the WTC memorial construction site, then head over to Wall Street and the NYSE. Along the way, we come across the place where George Washington was apparently sworn in as president of the United States. Interesting. We then continue uptown to Chinatown, where we stop and grab a bite at the local Ajisen Ramen restaurant.

We hop on the subway (we'd gotten 24-hour unlimited passes luckily) and check out Union Square for a bit, seeing the park and the market. Then we grab a subway and head all the way up to Central Park, where we dip in and check out some of the lower park features. After stopping to rest a little while in the park, we make our way back towards the Upper East Side and down 5th Ave to come upon Trump Tower. Then head down to 49th St and gawk at Rockefeller Center. We continue south until we hit Times Square and let him take a couple pics. Surprisingly, it wasn't all that crowded compared to other times I'd been there. I guess because on Monday, most of the theatres are closed. Anyway by that time we have to head down back to the Macy's and get his stuff back so he can make his journey back to JFK and I can head back up Broadway to my movie screening. The lady was the same lady who checked his luggage in, so she was kinda suspicious, but I made some touristy comments and she seemed appeased.

After bidding adieu to Tamil (hope his flight was right this time), I head up towards 49th and Broadway to the Broadway Screening Room. Spiffy. I talk to the doorman and head up to the 5th floor where the studio exec checks me in and gives my press materials. The Cove was a powerful documentary on the slaughter of thousands of dolphins in a secret cove in Taiji, Japan. Review to come later. After the movie, I head back to James' and sleep.
